Who's got a cheesy 2k list to play?

I'm looking for a challenge for my daemons. Can anyone field a really cheesy 2k list for me to play against? So far Tom is the only guy who has handed my list a defeat.

Re: Who's got a cheesy 2k list to play?

Yea everyone plays diffrently. When I play a watered down lists they don't make me happy because they make no sense, why would anyone field a list that was not coherant and effective? When I lose a few games with a watered down list my instinct is not to improve my play but to improve the list. A tweak her and a tweak there and before you know it im playing a power list again....

GW makes the only games I know where doing your best is considered poor sportsmanship.

Re: Who's got a cheesy 2k list to play?

    Blackjack:

GW makes the only games I know where doing your best is considered poor sportsmanship.

    But there is so much more to the game... themed armies, while not always incredibly effective in battle, are a blast to play because they offer something to talk about the whole battle long;

"Here's the Red Claw Tribe of the Notsewheigh Mountains. Luckily for the men of the Empire, they are led by a group of power-hungry (and inept) Shamen. This is deemed as "fortunate" due to the fact that while the incredible power of the Waaagh!, when properly harnessed is devastating, this group seems to struggle to maintain control. More often than not, a Waaagh! from the Notsewheigh Mountains is ended not by some Preceptor or Elector Count striking down a Warboss (as is so common with other greenskin incursions). Rather several Shamen have their heads dissapear in an incandescant ball of green Waaagh!-energy, and those orcs foolish (or awestruck) enough to be standing in the near vicinity are incinerated by the rolling wave of pure destruction."

Never mind that, there is the painting, the collecting, and the sparing between opponents. I know that you have said that I'm a little "rough" in that department, but you must have noticed that I treated you and Sean (the poor beastman player to whom I said "I give you 2.5 rounds before this is over) very differently. I've known Sean since I've opened the store, and you've been a relatively new player (having only been in once to test out your Armoured Fist company against my Tyranids). If I know a player, there is a fair amount of trash-talk that goes around the table (seems to be fairly prevailent at RCG... wonder why Wink [;)]), but that doesn't mean that it doesn't take shape at GW Tournaments, if only in different (and possibly more polite) forms. There's also the love of the hobby, and the appreciation of those who play/paint/collect/further the hobby itself.

I guess that what I'm trying to say is that GW isn't the only game where "Powergaming" exists; it's all over, from CCG's to MMO's. Where I believe that the poor sportsmanship exists is in cheating, in under-handed tactics (Oh, did I  roll double 1's?Indifferent [:|] or possibly moving, then constantly re-moving or pre-measuring spells/guess-ranged etc) and in just being an all-around poor-sport (complaining, gloating, etc).

Anyways, I've gone on long enough... time to get off the soap-box and let someone else take up all of your time for awhile.

    Cheers,
    Tom @ Red Claw

Re: Who's got a cheesy 2k list to play?

Actually it's milk I'm alergic to but since cheese is 100% milk... same diff.
Now as far as the cheese in the game goes, we all complain about some aspect of someone else's list but we really don't mean much by it. (By we I mean the Red Claw Regulars - Sounds like some Victorian Gang doesn't it?) Anyway, we really aren't that upset at the choice of lists others bring, most of the time.
What bothers me specifically is the poor playing manners of some other players out there and this is a generalization, not specifically one person or even players of the same game.
Poor sportsmanship in my opinion is when you are playing against someone and they create an atmosphere that isn't fun. They can be poor losers or poor winners or just all around obnoxious.
Poor losers might *** and moan when a dice roll doesn't go their way or complain excessively when their opponent is rolling well or just doing well, either in that turn or the entire game. They try and rush their opponent through their turn and yet take their time when it is their turn, not affording their opponent the same courtesy.
Poor winners gloat whenever they think they are doing well and mock their opponent for doing poorly, yet complain bitterly if their opponent has a dice roll or action go their way, even if they are winning by such a great margin that it hardly matters.
That's just a few general examples, as I said I am not talking about anyone specifically, I have seen several people demonstrate their poor sportsmanship in various ways and to varying degrees in various games.
I was an official WizKids judge for several of their game lines and as such I had to watch all the players and at the end of the tournament, choose one who demonstrated the best sportsmanship and give them the prize for that. So maybe I am just in the habit of watching for people disqualifying themselves so I tend to notice it a bit more than other players, I don't know.
But really, my point is it isn't so much the list you play but the atmosphere you create while you play. Is it fun to play you (again, I'm not speaking to anyone in particular, rather everyone generally) whether you are winning or loosing? Are you throwing temper tantrums when things aren't going you way or gloating excessively when they do? (IMHO ANY gloating is excessive.) Do you take your time to plan out your moves yet not affording your opponent the same courtesy, ie. come on roll the f**** dice already, we don't have all day to stand around. Is the gaming atmosphere you are creating encouraging your opponent to want to come back and play you or will he avoid playing you in the future because you are being such a *** now? (you can define that one on your own.)
I'm not saying don't build the best list you can within the rules and don't play to win. By all means, try your best to win and bring whatever list you think will work well for you (Tom's prejudice against named characters notwithstanding) but try to avoid all the bad behaviors I have highlighted above and also the ones I have not mentioned. What they might be is up to you to decide but one question you can ask yourself might help you determine what is acceptable and what is not. The question is this: Would I enjoy playing against myself when I am acting this way? Think about it and decide for yourself.

And one more time just in case you missed it. The above post was not about or directed to anyone person in particular. I have seen several people do the things I have talked about above and I wasn't always playing against them at the time. If you feel insulted by this post, suck it up and think about why it upset you and if it hits too close to home because you are doing some of the things I have criticized above then maybe you need to change your play manner. And if you don't want to, that's your prerogative but then I'd rather not play against you. Not because I'll loose, even if that's likely, but because I wont have fun, and the reason I play this game is to have fun, and I don't have to win to have fun. Some of the most enjoyable games I've had were massacres not in my favor. But my opponent was such a good sport I didn't mind loosing and I learned how to play my army better as a result.

So take my advice or not, if you are going to be a *** when I'm playing you then I 'd rather not play you and if that insults anyone, tough. And for the last time, 'you' isn't anyone specifically but everyone in general.

Re: Who's got a cheesy 2k list to play?

I think the post talks about most of us, no two people react the same.

If i am losing the game with absolutely horrible dice rolls even though ive been out playing my opponent I get a little morose. I don't take it out on the player, its not his fault. I still try and have fun though it becomes harder.

Anyway back to the very original post I am willing to play a 2000 point game or two. when are you available to play? I available in the evenings and weekends.
